9:00am-4:00pm, Hotel: Wilson Room
Imagine creating bright colorful stained glass
compositions without the mechanical or aesthetic burden of lead lines! It’s
possible with Peter McGrain’s newly developed Vitri-Fusáille process.
Vitri-Fusáille is a hybrid technique which combines the processes of
Contemporary Flat Fusing with Traditional Glass Painting. It allows for a
degree of immediate and expressive artistry in glass which has never before
been possible with any other technique. In this class students will have the
opportunity to create their own project using the Vitri-Fusáille process. Peter
will explain and demonstrate each step required.

William Cochran
9:00am-4:00pm, Hotel: Truman Room
Color is a conspicuous and
satisfying aspect of painting and glasswork, but the most fundamental
aspects of color – value and temperature – are incredibly easy to misperceive,
thanks to the way our visual system is wired. Over ten years of teaching
professional development workshops to veteran working artists, William Cochran
has developed several simple but highly effective demonstrations and
hands-on processes to help artists see what they've been missing, which
often revolutionizes their approach to design. Artists report more
powerful and satisfying results in their work after taking a workshop
from this highly rated instructor. Each participant will receive handouts
with key principles, examples and other information. All supplies will be
provided. Participants will complete the workshop with a new understanding
of color in art. Whether “value” and “temperature” are new
terms for you or you have a degree in painting, whether you never
intend to paint or you use painting extensively in your artwork, this
workshop elevate your design skills to new levels and improve your
art.

The Clear Palette

1:00pm – 5:00pm, Hotel: Monroe Room
In this course we’re going to discuss the character and qualities
of light and ways of manipulating those by means of composing a stained glass/a
laminated glass panel.
As we explore how to design for a
particular desired outcome, we are going to use clear glass properties such as
transparency, translucency/opacity, and textural variety as our palette.
Blocking, redirecting, reducing or enhancing light; alternating luminosity and
vibrancy of it; creating glass panels that work/are visible in both day light
and at night, as well as effective ways of combining glass with various
properties in one panel, will be among subjects we are to cover. Attendees will
be offered to create several tiles that pertain to those situations and can be
latter used as reference material.
